It’s a common problem that I hear all the time. The earbuds that come with iPod (or any other MP3 player) don’t fit comfortably in peoples ears, or they have a tendency to fall out.
Hearing Components has developed a plastic and foam accessory that snaps onto the buds and promises to both keep them in place as well as improve sound quality. However, the so-called Whoomp! Earbud Enhancers themselves don’t contain any audio enhancing technology, but rather serve to simply direct the music deeper into your head.

These look good. I get up at 5am every morning and do an hour of exercise. Sometimes I feel I spend half of that time putting my ipod ear plugs back in!

I’d be concerned about distorting the sound with these babies: headphones are designed down to the last detail for fidelity. For headphones that have super sound, over a wide price range, and that won’t fall out, see http://www.headphone.com/products/headphones/in-ear-monitor/ .
I have Etymotics (second pair- one was left on an airplane). These passively block out ambient noise, so they aren’t good if you need to be aware of your environment (say if you are running outdoors) but are great on an airplane or other travel situation where you might not want to hear or talk to people and other sounds.
If you want even better sound, add one of their headphone amplifiers, again available over a very wide price range. I have the cheapest (an old model), and it is excellent.
That’s my two cents. I have no financial connection of any kind with anything I mentioned.
